Confessor

Terry Goodkind

Confessor book cover

The best thing about this book is that Goodkind is able to bring about a satisfying ending to the Sword of Truth series. The second best thing is that this book gives the term "fantasy football" a new meaning.

"Confessor" began slowly for me and didn’t grab me immediately like "Phantom". But while I was reading the Ja’La tournament got started. Excitement was steadily building among the ranks of the Order and I was getting excited with them. The finals game was everything I had hoped it would be. Just spectacular. I was riveted during the game and during the chaos right after the game. Jagang you cheater!

This is not only the end of the book, it is also the end of the series.

I’m sure it’s not lost on you that opinions regarding this series are very divided. It has its fans but it also has its detractors. Now that I've finished I can confidently identify as a fan.

This is one of those series that people famously drop mid-series and never finish. I would recommend that it be read in its entirety before coming to a conclusion. People who have not read this series or have not finished it are missing out on a great fantasy tale.

In the end, I am honestly happy that I have read the Sword of Truth.

11 vs. 17

That said, I am aware that the Sword of Truth series is technically not these 11 books. The series is actually 17 books. These books plus two prequels ("Debt of Bones" and "First Confessor") and the Richard Kahlan series starting with "Omen Machine" and ending with "Warheart" - four books total.

The reason I’m not reading all 17 books is that I have heard people advise time and time again: Finish with "Confessor". And so I will. And so I have.
