The Bourne Ultimatum

Robert Ludlum

The Bourne Ultimatum book cover

"The Bourne Identity" was a brisk, entertaining, thriller. "The Bourne Supremacy" was a slower read because of a literary slant on the part of Ludlum but still a good read. With "The Bourne Ultimatum", Ludlum really pours in the details and slows down the narrative markedly. Add to that, the plot is simply too convoluted - the details too clever; I had a hard time keeping track.

It started off well-enough, for the first few chapters I kicked back since this seems to be a return to "The Bourne Identity". Sadly, it was not to be. I expect a thriller to be fast-paced and easy to follow. An exciting read. "the Bourne Ultimatum" is a slog. Really disappointing because I really like the angle of Jason now being fifty and what that meant in terms of his capabilities.

I tried to like this book and soldiered on chapter after chapter, but, alas, it dawned on me, that the reading experience was a struggle not a joy; and so I DNFed "The Bourne Ultimatum"
