Invaders 3

Invaders 3 cover

The last time we saw the Invaders they were flying back to Washington in a dour mood after the tragic adventure they had involving Brain Drain and the "Norse Gods". But it seems that things have lightened up considerably during the flight back.

Nearing their destination they spot a U-Boat attacking an American military supply ship.

Namor goes to handle the U-Boat while the two Torches help out the freighter with a deck fire.

In the modern age, Toro would have passed on - I can remember a comicbook where Bucky, as the Winter Soldier, shook Namor's hand near Toro's grave. The original Human Torch, on the other hand, would survive as the Vision.

But that is for the future, now, in the pages of the The Invaders, I'm enjoying the panel above - the original Human Torch and Toro flying free during the early days of Marvel.

This particular action by the Sub-Mariner results in the death of everybody in the U-Boat except the Captain. I'm not complaining, this is war. I'm just noting that down because in more modern comicbooks this might be flagged down. Anyway, the U-boat captain has a secret coded message that has been decoded in Washgington. A message involving an enigmatic figure called the U-Man. Fortunately, Washington already has footage of this character.

Super-strong, seven feet tall - and an Atlantean fighting on the side of the Axis.

The cover of this comicbook points to a fight among the Invaders. If you've been wondering how that fight would start I'm sure it would not surprise you that it starts because of Namor's legendary temper.

This tirade points to Namor being very emotionallhy affected by the fact that one of his own is fighting for the other side; Namor blames the Germans for attacks on his under sea kingdom, it angers him that an Atlantean would fight for them. Perhaps in shame he wants to handle the matter on his own but the other Invaders want to tackle it as a team. So now there is dissent in the ranks.

Namor e3ffectively handles the Torch.

Captain America finds his shield ineffective against the bulletproof Namor.

The fight spreads to the younger Invaders as well, with Bucky surprisingly siding with Namor.

At one point during the skirmish, the Torch almost has a fatal accident, where it not for the timely intervention of Captain America and Toro.

As the issue concludes, Bucky and the Sub-Mariner leave the others to confront the U-Man.
